My Pearl from an Oyster...

Sea World has an attraction where you can have a diver pick out an oyster for you, and then they get the pearl out of the oyster and you can make it into something. (I chose a necklace.) Back a long time ago, when Whit's family went to Sea World in Cali when he was a kid, he got an oyster for his mom. His oyster had TWO pearls! That happens in less than 3% of cases. It didn't happen with me. He really wanted Eli to get me a pearl and make it into a necklace--lucky me! Before I tell the photo story of the pearl, though, here is Eli showing Emma some pretty dolphins from underwater. I LOVE the dolphin viewing area!

Okay here Eli is picking out my oyster...

Now Whit's cracking it open for me...

Here's the icky osyter juice and the beautiful pearl!

And this is in the shop where they turned it into a necklace (with some added rubies--just how I like it!) :-) Of course, no photo of the necklace in here--it was all wrapped up to let the pearl set. My pearl was pink, though. Pretty!

Eli LOVED the sea horses and the sea dragons (like this one).

Emma and Dora in the shark tunnel.

Here we are hanging out at our resort again--it was SO nice!! Two bedrooms and two bath--SOOOOO much nicer than a hotel room when you have kids!

I found two seasons of ER at Target for $20, which we watched all week, so I am not sure how rested Whit felt--like he worked all week!
I love my pearl, though, Whit and Eli. Thanks!

Sea World Trip 2: Adventures with Nana

We loved Sea World so much that we decided to go again--twice. (For a total of three times!) Part of that might have had to do with the fact that we got tickets for Sea World and Busch Gardens that were good for unlimited usage for a two week period... and Sea World was just a few minutes away from our resort.

I loved petting the manta rays when I was a kid--in fact, one of my favorite stories (in retrospect) was when Jesse and I were at Sea World in San Diego at the Manta Ray pool. You can reach in and pet them. I recall thinking it was SO neat. For those of you who didn't know him, Jesse could tan 3 shades in an afternoon. Literally, the boy could not rest his left arm in the car window while driving because it would be a different color from the rest of his body after an hour or so. During the summers, he turned SO dark, he looked Mexican. I used to call him my "little Mexican boy." Spare me any lectures on being racist--it wasn't meant to be derogatory in any way of course, and I was like 10 years old.

Well, I went up behind him while he was petting a manta ray and put my arms on his shoulder. I said, "Hey little Mexican boy".

Whoops. It really was a little Mexican boy. He ran off screaming for his mom. Jesse almost died laughing.

That was a pretty big tangent. But, not only did Sea World have a manta ray pool where you could pet them, which sort of scared Eli, but I loved it... they also had a glass bottom pool where you can see them from below. I guess I might feel a little violated if I were the manta ray, but as a shameless observer, I loved it. Here's a shot of Eli under the rays--these are a few photos I forgot to include from our first trip.

Eli and I "finding Nemo". He called the big ones Dada, and the little ones Eli. He thinks he's Nemo and Dada is Marlin. Ha.

I love this shot! He was entranced by the schools of fish.

Back at our hotel room, baby Dora had a ball. She loves to stand, and just like Eli used to do, pulls your hands off her waist or trunk and insists on holding your hands to stand. It's cute but kind of annoying. Pardon my totally wet and nappy hair!

Smile for Grandma!

When we went to Sea World for the second time, Emma came along. Here's a family photo outside the park. Dora is happy as always!

We saw a flock of flamingos being herded into their pen. Apparently at Sea World (and we found out later, also at Busch Gardens), the animals on display are only one group of many. They get "time off" and are only on "display" for the tourists a fraction of their lives. That ensures they are excited to see people and are active, apparently. At Busch Gardens, they have 5 prides of lions, and they rotate them so they are all excited to see the people. It was pretty neat to see the changing of the guard of the flamingos--just following their ...trainers? Not sure what to call the people who tend them! Tenders? Ha.

The manatees were really NEAT. The photos don't do them justice because they are so BIG you couldn't really get them all. They were eating heads of lettuce when we went, and they were so cute!! (In an ugly way). They are seriously fat, though, and kind of the black sheep of the underwater world, apparently.

Another dolphin show... we never missed it. It was Eli's favorite show.

Here he is with the cast of the dolphin show.

Arabian Nights and First Trip to SeaWorld

Whit and I went to see the Arabian Nights dinner show in Orlando while we were there. It was great fun! The food was not the best I have ever had, but the show was amazing. It's got more than 40 horses and a similar number of performers. Plus, there was a belly dancer at the beginning! HAHA. Eli wanted to get in on the action when we were leaving... I thought it was cute. This was the night before our wedding anniversary!

The horses were LOVELY!

Eli and I ate breakfast on the patio every morning. It wasn't until later we figured out that he ate breakfast with me when I got up, with Whit when he got up and with Emma when she got up! He was getting three breakfasts every morning!

We went to Sea World for the first time and the kids loved it. Dora was happy as a clam (until she got really tired, anyway!)

As much as Eli loved the Shamu show (later), I think he liked the dolphins better. There was a lot more going on--dolphins, dancers, divers, birds, etc.

We had a great time, but can you tell Eli got a bit hot? Our kid is used to A/C! I love Dora's hat! She was so good and left it on! Ignore how badly it clashes with her dress! I thought I packed a few hats and somehow ended up with just the one!

Eli was having some peanut butter crackers and caught the eye of an Ibis. See it eyeing his cracker??

He decided to share...

I didn't show it, but I was worried he might lose his finger to an overzealous bird. That thing liked the pb crackers!! He was really excited to have its attention! Dora liked it too--she was almost crawling over him to get to it. See her little hand on his arm?

A family shot during Shamu's show.

Dora loves my mom. She was laughing and happy even though she was tired when my mom held her.

I got a pretty good shot of this last sequence. See the guy flying off Shamu's nose? Apparently they want you to believe he's the kid who carved the first wooden Shamu tail and then grew into a trainer. It was really inspirational until the SECOND time we saw the show and the same kid photo was used for a different trainer!! Whoops!

Florida Vacation Part One

WOW, we had a great time in Florida!! Emma and my mom both came--my mom for the entire trip and Emma for the second half. I am going to blog about the fun, but in waves. One huge blog for the whole trip would take me a week to get up!

We stayed at a really nice resort that is RIGHT next to Disneyworld. It was great. Eli loved the pools (there are 7) and we liked the restaurants, too. Here is the first day we were there at the big pool.

Whit's always been a great dad--but in the pool he is literally the BEST Dad I have EVER seen or heard of. He is non-stop fun. He throws Eli, swims him around, blows bubbles, swims from one end of the pool and back underwater, catches him, splashes, and so much more! He also did a lot of jumping in and diving for Eli's entertainment. Eli had a GREAT time and never wanted to leave the pool.

There were a lot of neat fountains and sprayers for the little kids to enjoy.

Some tossing...

Dora enjoyed the pool too, though she had less entertainment.

I mostly ferried her around. I am a little less fun than Whit, so I am sorry to say Eli almost always wanted Dada.

The whole fam through a fountain.

Eli LOVES his lerdleluh and we had a great time. Any time he threw a fit or melted down, Lerdleluh could handle it. This was on our way to our favorite seafood restaurant--GREAT blue crab cakes.

At the mexican place...

Dora loves her daddy, too. He's so fun, it's no wonder he's both kids' favorite person! His shirt is right--he really is a "fungi". :-)

We started out in a studio room (kitchenette, living area, and bedroom all combined. It was pretty ...small... for all of us. So we upgraded to a two bedroom two bath villa with a patio. That was the best thing we did. WE LOVED the space, and I LOVED the patio for Eli. The weather was beautiful and he played out there for hours. We let him dump water into cups, and so on. He came up with this on his own--too cute!

Lerdle-luh comes to visit

We leave in about 36 hours for Florida but my mom came in a little early. We are all going (kids, mom and all) but it's been nice to have my mom here for a while.

Eli and Dora playing--aren't they cute!?

Whit loved this photo--Eli saw something interesting...

Happy kiddo.

This was a new toy we just got at a garage sale. I will post a video of Eli and dad playing in it later. Pretty funny! In case you can't tell, it's a little garden!

Eli and his favorite person--Nana!

Eli saw Nana laying down and had to lay down too.
